Kim Hyun Joong Career.
Kim debuted as the leader of SS501 in 2005. In addition to their musical activities, SS501 participated in two reality shows — Thank You For Waking Us Up (2005) and Thank You For Raising Us (2006) — that profiled the group’s life together. They also appeared in MNet’s Idol World in 2007, which showed SS501 doing various missions in Japan.

Along with his bandmates, Kim is preparing SS501’s new Korean album. The group will kick off their Asia concert in mid-August 2009.

Kim Hyun Joong and swine Flu (H1N1 Virus)
SS501 leader and Boys Over Flowers star, Kim Hyun Joong, has been diagnosed with swine flu. The singer turned actor was in Japan to promote his hit drama series over the weekend, from 5 – 6th September. During the promotion, he had shown signs of a fever and a headache, which caused him to miss his activities on the 6th.
A representative from DSP Media gave a formal statement saying, “Scheduled for a flight, at 12pm on the 7th of September, he had passed through immigration without any problems but later in the afternoon, due to a sudden change to his health, he was taken to the emergency room.”
While in the ER, it was diagnosed that the star has swine flu, and the representative says that the star is being treated but has to remain under further observation to make any other report, thus causing him to remain in Japan. Kim Hyun Joong’s manager has been sent to the hospital to check on the matter and will inform the public with more details when available.
He has now recovered from H1N1 and was out of the hospital on September 15, 2009.

SS501 (pronounced as Double-S 501 or Deo Beul E Seu Oh Gong Il) is a South Korean boyband. SS501 debuted in 8 June 2005 with their first single “경고” (”Warning”), with a second single “Snow Prince” released in late 2005.

How the group SS501 formed ?
The 5 members of the band were either chosen through auditions for scouted by casting directors of the management agency. From the beginning, each of the member’s performance areas will not be limited to only singing. Hyun-joong and Jung-min are interested in acting. They are currently being trained in acting and will appear on stages or screens if they have a chance to. Hyung-joon and Young-saeng will also be performing as solo singers as well as with the band. Kyu-jong who is very much interested in making music will undergo various musical training and eventually become a producer.
What is the meaning of SS501 ?
The name of SS501 is a combination of the alphabet and numbers that have special meanings for the band members. The first “S” stands for the “Sun” and the “Star.” The second “S” is an abbreviation for “Singer.” The number 5,0 and 1 means ‘the 5 members of the band become one.’ In other words, the name SS501 means that 5 members gathered together to become singers and later in the future, big stars in the entertainment world.

Boys Over Flower Acting Debut: In 2009, Leader Kim Hyun Joong appeared in the highly anticipated Korean remake of popular Japanese Manga, “Hana Yori Dango”. Hyun Joong played the role of Yoon Ji Hoo, the F4 violinist that falls for the main character. Hyun Joong received huge praises from the drama and even went on to wining The Male Popularity Award at the 45 Baeksang Awards.
SS501 Sub Unit Formation
Sub Unit Formation: In late 2008, three of the five members formed a sub unit initially called Triple S, after their official fan club. The group debuted with the mini album entitled U R Man on November 27. 2008. Their title song, U R Man went on to win the YTN Seoul Music Awards (Hallyusang + Bonsang) making them the male first group to win an award in the year 2009 for best song.

Stage Debut: Member Park Jung Min debuted in the musical Grease as the leading character Danny. Grease follows the love story of Danny and Sandy, two different students who come together despite their families’ objection. Jung Min was even nominated for his role as Danny earlier this year.
